Standard Bank sponsors CUT winter school for fourth year

Standard Bank will once again play a crucial role in helping Free State scholars pass their matric exams – by sponsoring the Central University of Technology’s (CUT’s) Winter School. The Winter School takes place from 4th to 15th July 2011 at the university’s Bloemfontein campus and is designed to prepare matric students for their final maths, science, and technology exams.

Every year, some 2 000 students from schools all over the Free State and the northern Eastern Cape fill the available places in the CUT Winter School. Schools report that students who attend the Winter School perform far better in their year-end exams than those who don’t.

The Standard Bank sponsorship covers payment of outsourced lecturers and teachers, some of whom are Grade 12 examiners, as well as travel and accommodation costs for students from outlying districts.

Standard Bank representatives also talk to students about how to manage their finances once they leave school and embark either on tertiary education or a career.
