Al Gore to speak at Discovery Invest leadership summit

Al Gore, former Vice President of the US and global opinion leader on climate change has been announced as the headline speaker at 2011 Discovery Invest Leadership Summit to be held in Sandton on 21 September.

Gore is one of the most visible and tireless environmental activists in the world.  His bestselling book, “An Inconvenient Truth’ was turned into an Academy Award-winning documentary and in 2007; he was a co-recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize for “informing the world of the dangers posed by climate change”.

He currently spends most of his time as chairman of The Climate Change Reality Project, a non-profit organisation which has just announced its latest global campaign on climate change – a live streamed event to take place in 24 different time zones for 24 hours.

Post his political career, Gore has vigorously sought solutions to climate change issues.  He is co-founder and chairman of Generation Investment Management, a partnership focused on a new approach to sustainable investing and is also co-founder and chairman of Current TV, an Emmy Award-winning, independent TV news and information network.  He is also a senior partner in capital venture firm, Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, a member of the board of directors of Apple and senior adviser to Google.

Gore is headlining an impressive line-up of global thought leaders at the Discovery Invest Summit, which includes Dr Nouriel Roubini, acclaimed New York economics professor; Ricardo Semler, one of Latin America’s most visionary business leaders; Chris Anderson, best-selling author and editor-in-chief of Wired Magazine and Dan Ariely, a widely-published Professor of Psychology and Behavioural Economics at Duke University.   Leading local luminaries Graça Machel, founder and president of the Graça Machel Trust and Maria Ramos, group chief executive of Absa Group Ltd. complete the stellar line-up.
