After many scrumptious taste testers, NG KIDS is thrilled to announce the winners of the Young Chefs Competition proudly sponsored by REDRO in its October 2012 issue.
“The constant focus on the benefits of healthier foods in the youth market was the motivation for us to get involved in this competition,” says REDRO’s Brand manager Neil Meyer. “We wanted to emphasis the benefits of REDRO by teaching kids to make healthier food choices while testing their skills in the kitchen.”
Mouth-watering entries were received from kids aged fourteen and under in the following categories: Brain and Body Fuel, Party Snacks, Perfect Padkos or Outdoor Food and Weird But True Sandwich.
The four top chefs continue their culinary journey with prizes valued at over R3 000 each which includes baking and cooking kits, a year’s membership of The Cooking Club for Kids and a Snappy Chef Induction stove with heat-resistance hot plate all courtesy of The Cooking Club for Kids. The first thirty entrants also receive a year’s free membership of The Cooking Club for Kids.
The winners in their respective categories are:
Brain and Body Fuel: Rebecca Oosthuizen, 10, Bromhof, Salmon and salad surprise.
- Party Snacks: Lenieke Louw, 5, Roodepoort, Party flow with Redro.
- Perfect Padkos or Outdoor Food: Samia Naidoo, 8, Lenasia, Braaied vetkoek, mushroom and haloumi burgers.

“The standard of entries that we’ve received this year was phenomenal,” says NG KIDS editor Fiona Thomson. “This could be attributed to the rise and interest in cooking shows and contests that motivated our readers to put their own twists on ordinary dishes.”
