At the 63rd Annual General Meeting of the Association for Communication and Advertising (ACA) Wayne Naidoo (CEO of Lowe Bull) was unanimously voted in as the 2011 Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the ACA. Three Vice Chairpersons were also elected – they are: Mike Gendel, Boniswa Pezisa and Nina Morris.
Reinher Behrens, the outgoing chairperson of the ACA, reflecting on the last 12 months spoke of the 2010 events. Issues included the recurring debate on whether or not to ban advertising of alcohol products, the proposed Consumer Protection Act and a new Code of Conduct to govern tenders and pitches.
During the year ahead, the ACA will continue discussions with industry stakeholders until a suitable model for funding of the industry’s self-regulation and research requirements is agreed upon. Most importantly, efforts to have the MAC SA Charter, written into law will continue. The Charter was gazetted on 29 August 2008, which means it is currently recognised as ‘Best Practice’.
