Are trends Important?

Are trends important? You bet. According to Ann Mack, a world leader in this field, there’s more to trendspotting than just having a good laugh at the latest silly thing people are doing. They reflect the here and now of youthful society, showing up the concerns and interests of consumers.

This obviously has enormous commercial potential, which will be explored by Ann when she speaks at the AdReview   Conference on  “FOMO: How can brands tap into Fears Of Missing Out.”

Being first with the news has been a fundamental human preoccupation for probably the entire history of social mankind. It’s parodied in the 17th century nursery story of Chicken Little, who raced from village to village warning that the sky had fallen. He caused quite a lot of alarm and despondency until someone wiser and older pointed out his folly.

But think about it: we still do this. Remember the Y2K absurdity? The entire world believed their computers would stop working on the first day of the new millennium, and their economies would be plunged into chaos. And nothing happened.

But something will be happening at the Sandton Convention Centre on May 17, when the AdReview Conference, “The Future of Advertising” takes placed.  It’s a half-day conference jammed to the hilt with ideas you can take away and start using almost immediately.
