Since the Rank TV network was launched in 2002 commuters have remained informed and entertained by the extensive SABC content provided to the network. Almost 10-years later and the two parties continue to enjoy mutual benefits and value, thus ComutaNet proudly announces the renewal of the SABC Content Partnership.
Through this agreement the public broadcaster provides content that is aired at the 13 Rank TV sites nationally to the 2.6million daily Rank TV viewers (TGI, 2011). The content is also very diverse as it ranges from to-the-minute news bulletins to live soccer matches over weekends. Commuters are hooked and remained glued to the mega electronic billboard as they enjoy a range of local shows such as Jika ma Jika, Jam Alley, Zola 7 as well as live crossings to a host of special events, such as the 46664 concerts and the opening of parliament.
Yvonne Johnson, Head of Marketing at SABC commented: “For the SABC, Rank TV is a fantastic way to advertise to consumers because it offers an almost captive audience. We have whole queues of people in a very boring situation, so what Rank TV does is give people something to watch and something to talk about. I believe the SABC plays an important role in society, and through this partnership we have an opportunity to engage with commuters in a completely different environment.”
As the SABC prepares for exciting changes, ComutaNet is also keen to see how this will add further value to this already fruitful partnership: “We are looking forward to the launch of the SABC’s new digital channels as it will give us a greater variety of programming to choose from. SABC is the perfect content provider as we serve a very similar, if not identical, audience,” says
With the anticipated launch of two additional regional television channels, SABC4 and SABC5, ComutaNet will have access to more programming in more diverse languages, further meeting the needs of the mass commuter market. SABC4 will broadcast in Tswana, Sesotho, Tsonga, Venda and Afrikaans as well as English, to the northern provinces of the country. In the southern provinces, SABC5 will broadcast in Xhosa, Zulu, Ndebele and Swazi, as well as Afrikaans and English. Unlike other SABC TV services, SABC4 and SABC5 will not be available via satellite.
Having recently completed their R15million Rank TV upgrade of several sites nationally, ComutaNet is proud to be expanding to new areas and has welcomed the erection of the first ever Rank TV screen in the Western Cape. Now even more Rank TV viewers will enjoy the superior visual and audio quality of the mega-sized cutting-edge electronic screens.
Howard Plaatjes, CEO of ComutaNet added: “By ensuring the Rank TV content is relevant to our audience, we deliver on our promise to our clients to provide effective and impactful advertising to the mass commuter audience, all the while maintaining high levels of satisfaction among our target market. We wish to thank SABC for their continued support and hope to remain in partnership with the official broadcaster of the people for many more years to come.”
