pMailer, a South African bulk Email and SMS marketing platform has announced it will be the Ring sponsor of Digital Edge Live’s upcoming Title Fight event in Cape Town on 14 October, 2011, at the Dragon Power Arena in Cape Town. “Digital marketing is all about reaching the customers and getting direct feedback on your effectiveness,” says Philani Mdingi, Digital Marketing Manager of Prefix Technologies. “In line with that thinking, this event breaks the mould of the traditional conference and provides a way for the audience to get up close and personal with some of the leading thinkers in digital marketing.”
The Title Fight event will feature four hours of live debate between a host of local and international digital media practitioners. Over the course of four hours, each contender will fight to persuade listeners that his or her view is the way forward for digital marketing. There are a number of topics up for discussion, and former IT journalist of the year Eric Viedge will play the role of referee—or do we mean “fightmaster”?
Some of the questions to be covered include:
- How will traditional agencies deal with their digital foes?
- How will the South African telecoms scenario support or hinder online marketing?
- Are we ahead or behind the rest of the world, and can we keep pace?
- What does the future hold for marketing in the digital space?
The international media heavyweight will be Bob Garfield, who has been a columnist for Advertising Age for the past 26 years and co-hosts National Public Radio’s “On the media” show. Writing gigs include the Huffington Post, The New York Times and The Guardian; he’s busy writing his fourth and fifth books.
Local heavyweights include the Jupiter Drawing Room’s Graham Warsop, Gavin Rooke from Trigger/Isobar, Brett Shahim from Aqua Online, Ivan Moroke from TBWA, Nikki Cockcroft from Woolworths and Jason Xenopolous from Native.
It won’t be all work—after the blood, sweat and tears of the debate-style fight, the acclaimed band Goodluck will change the mood. “This event promises to be great fun but will also give a fascinating insight into how some of our leading digital marketers are thinking about the future,” says Mdingi. “It’s a must-visit for anyone in the industry.”
