Sports Illustrated’s definitive guide to the 2012 Olympic Games is bagged free with the August edition of the magazine. A 40-page day-by-day TV guide, the supplement covers not only the main events and headline athletes to watch on any given day, but also highlights the South African athletes competing – especially those with medal potential.
Editor Ami Kapilevich explains the thinking behind the guide: “The SI team pondered long and hard about how to make the London Games as enjoyable and accessible for our readers as possible. Remember, with minimal time difference between London and South Africa, the main events will all be televised during prime time here at home. Everybody is going to be watching – so the idea to do a specialised TV viewing guide came up trumps in our planning.”
With two pages dedicated to each day of the Games, the guide includes a full SuperSport schedule for the events on each day, pointers as to when South African athletes are competing, explanations on how specific events work, as well as plenty of trivia and statistics to impress your mates.
“With our extensive multisport knowledge here at Sports Illustrated, I don’t think any other publication will be able to produce a Olympic Games guide as in-depth as this one. We also wanted to create some ‘Proudly SA’ buzz around the Games by focusing heavily on the South Africans who have qualified,” says Kapilevich.
Sports Illustrated’s Definitive Guide to the 2012 Olympic Games is FREE with the August edition – on sale Monday 16 July 2012.
