If you haven’t seen it yet, Caxton’s online offering, www.looklocal.co.za <http://www.looklocal.co.za/> , offers community news, by suburb, in an easy to access hyperlocal online format. Since its inception, the site has grown in popularity with many residents accessing the online sites while still continuing to refer to their printed community newspapers.
“The two offerings are completely different,” says Marc du Plessis, Sales Manager at The Newspaper Advertising Bureau (NAB). “Our traditional printed community newspapers remain our core focus with residents placing heavy reliance on their ‘media shopping mall’. The looklocal sites have a distinct hyperlocal feel, which no other news site offers.”
The looklocal portals provide the online community with an opportunity to interact with their communities online and search for news and information relevant to just their areas. “Each of the current 31 sites are linked to Twitter and Facebook so that residents within each area have access to up to the minute news, views and opinions,” says Marc.
looklocal has recently launched Version 2 of its property and motoring sections and plans to have a minimum of 52 sites live by early next year. “Property and motoring are popular with our online browsers so we’ve revamped these to include broader housing and car purchasing options,” he says. “Some of the other popular sections on looklocal include news, schools and galleries.
The obvious advantage for advertisers is that they can promote services and goods directly to their specific catchment areas with no wastage.”
looklocal can be found at www.looklocal.co.za <http://www.looklocal.co.za/> then simply click on the desired suburb.
